Falling for Rodarte

I wonder if it is possible to speak of Rodarte without the word 'other-worldy' cropping up? Because their whole concept certainly does seem to come from another world; the place you frequent in your mind's eye but rarely visit in reality. Originating from wild and wuthering heights the sister's genius gusts fresh air into the most stuffily superficial of industries, but it rustles one's feathers like a soft caressing summer's day breeze (rather than the hurricane you would expect from the storms it has brewed since coming onto the scene in 2005) and brings with it a breath of refreshing normality in the person, but quite the opposite in the design.

Far from the everyday the Mulleavy's collections are dramatic in a way that every one knows. They're recognisable yet never predictable. Elegant collections take unexpectedly dreamy directions and what a romantic idea this one is, basing a collection on sleepwalking (which is what they've done for Fall 2011). Although a better way of describing it might be to say think like you're floating through the hazy dreams that come from sleeping under a billowing eiderdown duvet with a big clean pillow and the knowing you have no reason to get up in the morning... The Fall line throws light on their self taught skills as it has a distinctive arts and crafts feel, pieces could easily have been made from patchworked scraps of lace, crochet and knit remnants cleverly woven together with the odd spiderweb here and there with flowing dresses that threaten to unravel into a stream of cloud before your very eyes
