possibly maybe

could someone possibly build me a time machine and take me back to 1981 and then make me friends with Grace Coddington please? and if it's not asking too much could someone maybe arrange for the two of us to go off on safari together? i promise i'll send you a postcard...

We could go to North Africa, I hear the Sudan's worth a visit? or what about South America, perhaps stop by Peru? So I'm thinking a suitcase of cottons and linen, a pair of Birkenstocks and maybe some insect repellent. Packing light... I can do that... yes, yes i can...

One or two dozen of these:

and surely no matter where you are you can never have enough gold chains; like a few moss mills necklaces probably wouldn't go amiss

where is the line and who drew it?

Do you ever have times that feel like moments of revelation (like if you were a living animation a light bulb would appear shining brightly above your head), but then the minute you become aware of what's just dawned on you you feel silly? You feel silly because you realise you actually knew that thing all along and infact it's not such an amazing surprise? (therein lies the real surprise - that you were so silly to forget in the first place?!) Am I making any sense?

Well anyway I just had one of those "ha ha I'm idiot not-such-a-revelation revelations" upon seeing these photos of Zuzana Kubickova's creations.... FASHION IS ART.

I understand there are an infinite number of arguments against this, and I'm not going to get into a big rant debating my side of things here right now, but basically I think that seeing as how art is so ridiculously subjective then I'm a perfect genius in my revelation!

Look at Kubickova's sculptural designs, I hope you can see how beautiful they are to look at and how they're an example of the impossibility of defining genres and trying to allocate different things into these extremely narrow and restricting categories...

I like books and I like boys who look like they like books

I'm shockingly unsubtle at doing double-takes in the street. If I see something of interest I just gawp; obviously; and usually open mouthedly. A boy who styles himself in a nerdy but scruffy geek chic way will always catch my eye (and then I'll catch a fly in my yawning gob) ha ha... Over-styling the look is simply ridiculous, if he's wearing a buttoned up shirt and dickie bow, braces, a cardigan, Buddy Holly glasses, ankle skimming trousers and brogues, then the silly billy is trying waaaaay too hard and it's laugh- out- loud-able. Ideally he should look slightly rough around the edges, messy hair or worn down shoes or something that indicates nonechalance and normality, that he spends more time skipping class than he does infront of the mirror.

So where I'm going with this is to say that I really like Fred Perry's latest collaboration with the print genius Liberty of London. The range, entitled 'Blank Canvas', has a classic English vibe with Libery's quintessential paisley and floral patterns making over the archetypal Perry polo shirts. It works like peanut butter and jam, the minimal simplicity and the rich patterns complement each other in a way most pleasing to my taste... And they even thought of matching shoes! What do you think? Do you like it?

springtime is blooming

it's a veritable knickerbocker glory!!!

"A summer essential - wear your shorts rolled up at the hem, with a slouchy T-shirt, blazer and rocking ankle boots" Miranda Almond, fashion editor.

Okay so it's not the greatest fashion revelation of all time that shorts are on trend for spring summer; it's like saying 'this winter, make sure you own a coat'. Not exactly rocket science... But what if you were to find a way of wearing shorts with a bit more panache? Aha! I have the answer! BLOOMERS! Hey presto you've got your shorts but with an added underwear as outerwear feel to them. Somewhat like big french knickers they're rather humorous but also quite elegant and fliratious.

Dolce and Gabbana are at the helm of the trend with a laid back romanticism in their boudoir- inspired lace and silk bloomer shorts, but there are many interpretations going around. For example Marc by Marc Jacobs has charming Lolita-esque ones and I particularly like the platinum silk brocade ones by Rochas

Topshop have a few nice floral pairs and there are pastel cotton ones to be found in American Apparel. And although you certainly don't want a mass of billowing fabric ballooning out your bottom I would recommend wearing them on the larger side rather than on the one size down side, because unfortunately that starts to ring a 'diaper' bell...

Oh I give one last word, one of caution: if you're a girl like Peaches remember it can easily go pear shaped...

p-p-p-pick up a Taylor

Who would have thought that penguins, old soap operas and trashy grannys would go hand in hand? But ecclectic eccentricity is what makes Charlotte Taylor's first collection work so well.
Having graduated from Central Saint Martin's, she launched at this year's London Fashion Week with an autumn / winter collection.

The strong colours and penguin print dashed through navys and creams works so well. The contrasts of lightweight fabrics folding and flowing around textured tweeds and wools make for beautiful, moving clothes that are still absolutely feminine.

..... see Charlotte's blog HERE .....

And in other news I called to visit my friend and his cat the other day and, as one does when one is a twenty-something year old, we ended up playing with toy dinasours... i choreographed a neat little dance routine for my raptors rah-rah-ah-ah-ah

Lady Gaga watch out!!!

snap1

Widely known fact: i'm a bit stoneaged... i've never had more than 4 tv channels, i was left stuck with dial up connection while all my friends whizzed from broadband to wireless, and i got my first digital camera today - April 2010. A long time coming it was actually a pretty snappy transaction when it came down to it. I said 'hello argos, i'd like a camera please, the cheapest one in the catalogue, thank you very much'.

And then I took some of those 'this is what i wore today' photos.

The quality's not the best but let us not be fussy, the timer was awkward and so was i.
scarf: charity shop. jumper: urban outfitters. tshirt: h&m. skirt: charity shop. socks: h&m. shoes: urban outfitters.

This is my lovebird chain, it was a present from my godmother for my 21st and the little bird goes back and forth inside the cage. i never take it off.

HAPPY EASTER!!!

Once upon a time I organised a surprise party for my sister's 16th. It didn't really turn out so well as she saw everybody through the window on her way in... But last night we surprised the shizz out of John by throwing him a surprise birthday party so after three false alarms, a deafening roar of frantic ssshhhhhs, and a big BOO, we had the times.

and this is what I wore:

Cardigan: Beyond Retro. Tank top and skirt: H&M. Belt: from a dress I had when I was 5 or 6... Necklace: borrowed from Issy

Today was consequently a blurry, dressing gown enveloped, couch day. Toasted tuna sandwiches, buckets of tea and a television that for some reason has turned everything purple, including the beautiful Miss Hepburn

and on a final, unrelated, note of chipped nailpolish - so many lovely summery seaside colours, so few fingers...
