a date for one

Dear Blog, I miss my duvet and my pillow... We've been kept apart for too long now and are due some serious catch up time; I think perhaps I'll invite myself to a pyjama party tomorrow so the two of us can spend some long overdue quality time together. I know I don't have any hair to braid and my nails are already painted, but I can think about boys and watch multiple episodes of the Gilmore Girls and drink peppermint tea from a teapot. Maybe I'll even cook eggs for breakfast...

less... less.... less..... WIN

Throughout college I've embraced the 'hobo-chic' look (translate: glamorous term which fools nobody that I'm accidently-on-purpose all mismatched and dishevelled looking when in fact I actually just fell out of bed and crawled into whatever lay closest at hand on my bedroom floor) so it might come as a surprise that I absolutely lurrrrve this Autumn's simple, pared-down look. Black, white, navy, camel, it's really very uncomplicated in its minimalism.

A lifelong fan of Chloe I am once again liking what they've done but also if I'm name dropping in relation to this less-is-more look then I give a shout out for
Celine
and Matthew AmesAnd this Editorial from July's issue of Vogue Nippon is exactly how I would interpret this look as looking it's best - clean and tidy clothes worn in a way that doesn't look like you're worried about keeping them clean and tidy. It's Lily Donaldson styled by Charlotte Stockdale and photographed by Josh Olins...

flatter my imitation

Working in administration might have me at a long shot away from the upper echelons of corporate executives but I (thanks to my worldy wisdom) have learnt to overlook these minor details and as long as my dreams are high-flying then I'm happy out in economy for now. Such is my acceptance of the state of these affairs that I'm embracing the everyday and riding on the little thrills of daily life, such as a three-digit bank balance... woo! So while I await the day when I might deduct decadent amounts of money from said account without worry, I am making do (making, meding and doing, that is. For whilst I can't financially afford a Rodarte dress I can't fashionally afford not to have one and um here's one I prepared earlier!

From head to toe my secret ingredients are: socks from Penneys, socks from ??, tights from H&M, slip from charity shop, dress from Penneys, net curtain from charity shop, faux pearls from ??

Falling for Rodarte

I wonder if it is possible to speak of Rodarte without the word 'other-worldy' cropping up? Because their whole concept certainly does seem to come from another world; the place you frequent in your mind's eye but rarely visit in reality. Originating from wild and wuthering heights the sister's genius gusts fresh air into the most stuffily superficial of industries, but it rustles one's feathers like a soft caressing summer's day breeze (rather than the hurricane you would expect from the storms it has brewed since coming onto the scene in 2005) and brings with it a breath of refreshing normality in the person, but quite the opposite in the design.

Far from the everyday the Mulleavy's collections are dramatic in a way that every one knows. They're recognisable yet never predictable. Elegant collections take unexpectedly dreamy directions and what a romantic idea this one is, basing a collection on sleepwalking (which is what they've done for Fall 2011). Although a better way of describing it might be to say think like you're floating through the hazy dreams that come from sleeping under a billowing eiderdown duvet with a big clean pillow and the knowing you have no reason to get up in the morning... The Fall line throws light on their self taught skills as it has a distinctive arts and crafts feel, pieces could easily have been made from patchworked scraps of lace, crochet and knit remnants cleverly woven together with the odd spiderweb here and there with flowing dresses that threaten to unravel into a stream of cloud before your very eyes

Granny's in the kitchen doin a bit of stitchin

Our Stitch and Bitch group had fallen apart since the end of college but reconvened again yesterday with much more stitching than bitching as we were a little preoccupied watching the tennis. It turns out I'm the best knitting teacher in the whole wide world as I taught Jack how to knit in one briefing and a three-stitch demo (no credit given to the genius of the student here at all at all) So if you or any of your friends are interested in acquiring perfect and awe-inspiring knitting skills then look no further! For a nominal pay-by-the-minute fee you can have quality one-on-one tuition in the comfort of your own home (fee is subject to change depending on quality of tea and biscuits provided per session; results not guaranteed)

This is what I did with a floor-length size 20 dress from a charity shop. I shortened and hemmed it, took it in then sewed part of an old net curtain onto the front panels... et voila!

An off day

I had a day off today for having worked last weekend and decided it was about high time I paid a visit to the hairdresser. I've been growing my hair out for aaages now and it's been horrible, I hate the inbetweeny stage, so I went to get some sort of shape put in it. Thinking I'd learnt from past mistakes of giving free reign to a stranger with a scissors between their eager fingers I brought along a photo of Hannah Holman as a guideline.

I explained (ignoring the colour) this was the style I was going for - plain and simple. Then I started into the tea, biscuits and magazines looking up an hour later to see my poor head balder than ever before...

This is what I was wearing aka my Fiasco Outfit - t-shirts from Topshop, skirt from a charity shop. Hmm I spent the afternoon hiding out in my room, the next best thing to hiding under a hat, catching up on arts and crafts time and this is what I made:
