it's a veritable knickerbocker glory!!!
"A summer essential - wear your shorts rolled up at the hem, with a slouchy T-shirt, blazer and rocking ankle boots" Miranda Almond, fashion editor.
Okay so it's not the greatest fashion revelation of all time that shorts are on trend for spring summer; it's like saying 'this winter, make sure you own a coat'. Not exactly rocket science... But what if you were to find a way of wearing shorts with a bit more panache? Aha! I have the answer! BLOOMERS! Hey presto you've got your shorts but with an added underwear as outerwear feel to them. Somewhat like big french knickers they're rather humorous but also quite elegant and fliratious.
Dolce and Gabbana are at the helm of the trend with a laid back romanticism in their boudoir- inspired lace and silk bloomer shorts, but there are many interpretations going around. For example Marc by Marc Jacobs has charming Lolita-esque ones and I particularly like the platinum silk brocade ones by Rochas
Topshop have a few nice floral pairs and there are pastel cotton ones to be found in American Apparel. And although you certainly don't want a mass of billowing fabric ballooning out your bottom I would recommend wearing them on the larger side rather than on the one size down side, because unfortunately that starts to ring a 'diaper' bell...
