82nd Academy Awards

Until tomorrow we shalln't be seeing who wore what on the red carpet.

This year the nominees for actresses in a leading role are - Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side; - Helen Mirren in The Last Station; - Carey Mulligan in An Education; - Gabourey Sidibe in Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire; - Meryl Streep in Julie & Julia.
And nominations for those in a supporting role are - Penelope Cruz in Nine; - Vera Farmiga in Up in the Air; - Maggie Gyllenhaal in Crazy Heart; - Anna Kendrick in Up in the Air; - Mo'Nique in Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire.

So before all the glossy magazines are published and the gossip and bitching begins, I'd like to think of the Oscars with a romantic view based on the true glamour and beauty of old Hollywood style. Where the elegance and grace of women was founded on an air of mystery. We didn't know the details of their private lives, their relationship affairs, exercise regime, diet, sexual activities... They had a seduction that came from what we didn't know...

Also, I am in dire need of a haircut. Can anyone recommend a hairdressers in Dublin that needs models for training classes? My fringe has been swept to the side for weeks as it's long enough to reach my nostrils and the has-been-bob is now little more than a blob... I've been wrapping silk scarves into bows to try and hide the state of it but having seen the super cool wigs in Manish Arora's Fall 2010 collection I'm beginning to consider taking headwear on board fulltime

But no, seriously, recommendations PLEASE!!!

  1. As you know yourself I'm actually not in Dublin but I found these online:

I go to the House of Colour on Abbey St/Liffey St depending, and they are fantastic!
Its completely free for a full cut and blow dry. The only thing is they only have classes on certain days (Mon/Tues/Wed) and appointments are always either at 10am or 2pm.

There's a Peter Mark place on the top level of the Stephen's Green shopping centre too - I think it was €10-€15 for a wash, cut and blowdry when I was a student. There's another trainee hairdressers place, near Insomnia on Little Catherine St. (the M&S side entrance into Jervis) but I can't remember the name. Also, there's a hairdresser's in the GPO Arcade, down at the Penneys end, ask them if they need models for cuts and colouring.

There is salon across from Bleeding Horse pub (just of Camden Street) and they are always looking for hair models - not sure of exact prices but they are cheap enough.

I can't recommend Robert Chamber's (Liffey St) students enough. You get a great wash, cut and blowdry all for under €20.

There is a L'Oreal school of hairdressing just beside harcourt St Luas stop , in the office block on the corner. Can't remember what the name of the building is, its just around the corner from D2 opposise where the Chocolate Factory used to be. The cuts and colours are all free since its classes.
