Today I had a little moment whilst queuing the supermarket. I was standing, as you do, spacing out, as you do, not thinking of much, as you do, when I felt one of those imaginary cartoon lightbulbs pop above my head. It wasn't exactly the revelation of the century but it caught me surprise and landed me with a bit of an old thud. And...? *Ping: I have reached planet Paris. So yes, there I was in the lunchtime rush with my few groceries, waiting and waiting and listening in on the conversation of the two girls infront of me. Then I felt it: Not only was I not passively overhearing a gayified blaaaabloooo blooblaabloooo blablob bla blob blooo but I was actually following her embarrassing recount of her Saturday night escapades and cringing for her and her drunken attempts at alluring the sexy bar man... Bonjour Mademoiselle Zara et bienvienue en France...
Being here is possibly the best thing in the world! I think if I managed to find myself bored for even half a second then I'd definitely deserve a Noble Prize for achieving the impossible. And because I'm in a positive mood I'm going to list all the things that made me feel good today:
- I got up at 8am with heaps of energy
- Had a scrummy breakfast of Swedish flatbread and smoked salmon
- I wore my newest awesomest jumper that I bought in a thrifty charity shop in Montmartre at the weekend
- In class I befriended a very lovely lady who is a mathematics teacher and also wife to the Korean Ambassador
- I came home to find two letters waiting for me - one from the bank (which is not lame and grown-upy and snore, but which is totally positive because it shows how I'm becoming a proper resident here) - and one in a big brown cardboard envelope from Amazon and my darling Nuala
- I went to the Sorbonne administration office and in a bureau of six employees, when my turn came around the five female workers were busy and I was attended to by the young gentleman. (Do I need to point out how gorgeous and French and nonchalent he was?)
- I inadvertently came upon the Pantheon and got to visit for free because of being a young EU citizen and saw GRAVITY
- I got a spot of sketching in on the Metro
- Aforementioned supermarket realisation
- I bought new stationary
- Sat downstairs with my computer and got extra speedy internets and wrote this EPIC post
